Tumors result from an uncontrolled proliferation of abnormal cells shape and dimensions which are not recognised by the body and are eliminated by the immune system (Brothwell, 2008).
These may be divided into benign and malignant neoplasms. Benign tumors compress nearby tissues without destroying them; they are often enveloped in a fibrous connective tissue capsule which encapsulates and separates them from neighbouring tissues, to which they are adjacent. Malignant tumors grow and penetrate in the tissue creating room for themselves and inducing death of the surrounding healthy cells.
